Balancing school/work with life can be extremely stressful... even impossible at times. With deadlines, homework, coursework, revising and exams, it feels like no matter how much work you put in, it's never enough. Sometimes if I have a deadline for a uni assignment due, I feel guilty if I spend a day doing hobbies or just relaxing, whether it's a break or not. I guess this can get easily confused with procrastination however, procrastination does not count for every break or day off you give yourself!
Breaks are important for relaxing your mind and can help you to approach or continue a task with a fresh mind. This can help with overcoming problems, creating new ideas and reducing stress.
Here are five ways to help balance your school life with your personal life <33
- Hobbies📚🎨🎮 - Don't neglect time for your hobbies to get school work done. I know I've done this and it felt so relieving to get back into doing the things I enjoy. You could dedicate more time to your hobbies, try new ones or even socialise with friends and family through games, group chats/calls, or hang outs. Never forget to have fun.
- Walk🚶♀️➡️🌲☀️ - Taking a break from a long day of school work can be refreshingly done by going on a walk. Whether it is a nature walk in a park or just a quick walk around the street, the fresh air can really give your mind a fresh reset and break the cycle of getting soaked up and trapped in all the work you have to get done. Take some headphones, pop some music on and walk your mind away from work stress!
- Treat yourself!📺🍫🧖♀️- Ending a day spent doing school work by watching your favourite film, watching something new or binge watching a TV show is the perfect way to unwind and treat yourself with some of your favourite snacks... you could even get some snacks after your walk ;)
- Self-Care🧖♀️💅 - When under a huge amount of stress, it's important to care for yourself physically and mentally. Everyone has different self-care techniques and preferences which can vary between personalities, time of day, productivity and hobbies. This can include walking, cleaning, skincare, socialising and hobbies. If it feels good for your mind, do it! Never underestimate the power of self-care; put yourself first always! A bit of self-care a day can begin the next day better :)
- Time Management⌚️🗓️- To balance your time efficiently, you could make a timetable or a rough idea of a time plan to follow to remember to give yourself a break, make time for other things in the day and you can even see this as a goal to get a certain amount of work done within a time frame you've made for yourself.
